Lead Design Engineer (Multi Discipline – MEP)

Location: South Carolina / USA

Job Purpose:  Our client are currently recruiting for key positions to deliver large-scale, multi-discipline projects for international clients.

Experience in the Pharmaceutical, Bio-Pharmaceutical or Semi-Conductor industries is essential.

The Lead Design Engineer is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and reporting against the engineering plan on a timely basis to deliver the engineering scope on time and within budget.

Responsibilities will include implementing project policies, systems & procedures.  The Lead Engineer coordinates with the Project Manager, studying specifications and procedures for engineering, and exercises functional authority for all engineering design activities while acting as a company representative to all stake holders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for large-scale, multi-discipline design engineering team, in close cooperation with the Project Manager, in assembling and controlling the required manpower and software tools required to complete the project.
  • Department on-boarding of policies, procedures, guidelines, etc.
  • Directs the preparation and stewardship of scope of work in the project, including usage of appropriate design tools, computer hardware and software, adherence, advises and ensures design specifications, practices and procedures meet safety and industry standards, project cost and schedule.
  • Review, update, and amend specifications and procedures to ensure that these documents and references are up to date and relevant and in accordance with applicable design standard (ASME, PED, ISO, ANSI, ASHRAE, IEEE, IEC, NSAI)
  • Ensures all discipline departments of Engineering have effective resources and perform with expected efficiency and productivity.
  • Manage work allocations for a large team of multi-discipline design engineers.
  • Responsible to monitor the engineering schedule and related milestones, provides data and recovery plans to address any technical issues or schedule delays.
  • Responsible for Engineering progress tracking, reporting including budget & schedule control.
  • Set, Monitor, and review the KPI’s to determine accurate status of Engineering, making tactical decisions for allocating resources, to achieve the Engineering deliverables
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure conformity with specifications and quality requirements and provides technical advice to resolve problems.
  • Responsible for the change management process of a project, including creating value for the client through design processes.
  • Evaluate and provide input on new design concepts which were not a part of the original scope of work.
  • Lead the sustainable design initiative within the company with close attention to energy management, design for sustainability and implementation of sustainable design technologies.
  • Enhance staff capabilities on the job with skill training programs, aim of increasing worker skills and personnel development.
  • Implement the company communication plan within the team. Provide support to ensure targets are met.
  • Accountable for ensuring execution of the project scope is technically aligned and in compliance with Project Operations, Policies, Standards of Business Conduct, and company Project Management System (PMS).
  • Oversee and manages all technical aspects of design and materials procurement, vendor/subcontractor interfaces to meet timely delivery.

Qualifications:  Bachelor (Hons) Degree in an Engineering Discipline – Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical or equivalent.    Certificate in Project Management / Engineering Management is desirable.

Knowledge and/or Experience  8+ years of experience in a Senior / Lead Engineer position with expert knowledge of engineering design & execution of multi-discipline projects and operations.  Specific knowledge of advanced technologies and practices in the bio-pharmaceutical and semi-conductor industry is essential for this role.

  • Experience in Engineering Design software programs such as: Plant 3D, Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360, Caesar, etap, Dialux or similar.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical & electrical design standards, specifications, guides, and procedures.

Salary/Package: Negotiable depending on experience.
