Job Description

Structural Design Engineers (Dublin)  kppm are currently looking to recruit Structural Design Engineers across all levels to work in our clients Dublin office.  A leading consulting Engineers working on a broad range of projects across the following sectors: healthcare, education, conservation, retail, residential, civil infrastructure and environmental.

Suitable candidates will have

An honors degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or equivalent and have:

  • 2 years for more junior level roles
  • 4 to 6 years for Intermediate to Senior Roles
  • 6+ for Senior Roles and preferably chartered

A sound understanding of engineering principles and a strong technical focus, ability to apply engineering principles and codes of practice to solve technical problems.

Excellent conceptual design abilities to provide robust and economical solutions.

Significant base of IT skills including: Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project,  AutoCAD.

Structural design software such as CADS, SCIA, FastTrack, STRAP, TEDDS, etc.

The ability to source and use new design software to benefit project work.

Independent judgement in the application of engineering science and knowledge including complex design, construction and management.

Strong communication skills both oral and written

A positive, proactive approach with an ability to adapt to changing scenarios

Commitment to CPD and competence

+ For Senior roles:

The ability to source and use new design software to benefit project work.

Independent judgement in the application of engineering science and knowledge including complex design, construction and management

Leadership skills to plan, manage and direct human, material and financial resources required to solve complex problems in multi-disciplinary teams

High level of commercial understanding and application

Understanding of the Irish regulatory and policy issues.

Commitment to the public interest in all aspects of your work including health, safety, risk, financial, commercial, legal, environmental, social, energy conservation and sustainability

Implement full Project Delivery Process including GCC Contracts.

Business Effectiveness – lead by example

A successful track record working closely in partnership with clients and contractors and other members of design teams.

 

Key Responsibilities & Activities / For Senior Level Roles  As a senior engineer you will be responsible for the technical, managerial and commercial aspects of your project Your work will be carried out in accordance with the company ISO procedures.

Effective delivery of projects to include preparation of all contract documentation, project costing, budgeting, programming, attend / chair site meetings, manage contractual issues, site monitoring to ensure compliance / site supervision, contribute to the handover and takeover of completed projects.

Prepare risk assessments, health & safety plans.

Check concept and technical correctness of work prepared by staff reporting to you.

Effective communication skills to facilitate written and verbal interaction with colleagues, team members, contractors and Clients.

Demonstrate efficient work practices, avoiding abortive work, working within budget, tracking extra services and ensuring the effective use of resources.

Preparation of fee proposals and submissions for approval.

Attend interviews and give presentations.

Develop new Client relationships and manage established Client relationship

Develop the skills of staff that report to you through mentoring, delegation and training.

Attend Project Managers Meetings

 

Key Deliverable s Responsible for the technical, managerial and commercial aspects of significant projects from inception to handover,  to include issuing of invoices, collection of fees and management of client satisfaction.

Responsible for Contract procurement, administration and delivery.

In depth technical knowledge across a range of disciplines.

Concise and user friendly written and verbal communication.

Demonstrate efficient work practices, avoiding abortive work, working within budget, tracking extra services and ensuring the effective use of resources.

Work closely in partnership with Clients, Contractors, other members of the design team and colleagues.

Develop new Client relationships and manage established Client relationships.

Ongoing commitment to CPD in line with our clients CPD accredited employer status.
