Senior Sustainably Engineer / Sustainability Department Manger

 About the Opportunity  You will be a key member of the Sustainability Life Sciences European Organization with responsibility for management and direction in response to our sustainability goals (environmental, social and governance) in Life Sciences Ireland.

Communications and Reporting:

  • Reports directly to the European Director of Sustainability.
  • Participate in regular Life Sciences calls to manage and share key resources.
  • Facilitate & promotes Global Integrated Delivery (GID).
  • Actively communicates through Life Sciences network to align on optimum tools & best practices.
  • Communicate with Project Managers/Design Managers to proactively address project issues.
  • Communicate with Engineering Director/Discipline Managers to develop standards and best practices related to sustainable solutions.
  • Communicate with Sales team to support sales activities related to sustainability aspects.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Oversight & management of the Sustainability Group including recruitment, staffing, qualifications, training, competency, quality, change management, and delivery of engineering deliverables to budget & schedule.
  • Cover the Sustainability Project Lead role on key projects.
  • Delivery of sustainability solutions which fully comply with all Irish Statutory and legal requirements together with business case needs.
  • Ensuring company sustainability requirements are incorporated into the design including Security, Quality, Environment, Safety & Health (SQESH)
  • Preparation and verification of sustainability budgets, developed as part of the overall Proposal Development phase, ensuring implementation of the as-sold strategy and budget.
  • Identifying and agreeing with the European Director of Sustainability, and others as appropriate, a comprehensive resource plan for the Sustainability Group.
  • Agree with the Quality Manager the extent of processes required for the specification and verification of sustainability design on projects.
  • Support the project team in delivering the defined sustainability scope to the required quality, and to programme and budget.
  • Supports and propagates the use and uptake of enhanced tools and Lean Execution approaches within the Sustainability Group.
  • Cover the role of the Sustainability lead in Life Sciences projects and provide overall management, guidance, and direction to the Ireland Sustainability Group.
  • Assist in the overall delivery of the project by the team, including participation in Bidding & Proposals, Project Strategy meetings, Monthly Project Reviews, client presentations, Audits, etc.
  • Support the Sales team with proposals and at presentations as required.
  • Oversight, forecasting and management of Sustainability Group resourcing
  • Management and direction of recruiting strategy and alignment with the wider Engineering Group strategy.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with other disciplines / groups
  • Ensure understanding and application of responsibilities incorporated in the Company’s Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards
  • Establish and maintain contact with relevant professional institutions, academia and industry.
  • Introduce and support the development of sustainability policy, strategy and best practices into design, management, and delivery.
  • Assist graduate and staff development.
  • Support to corporate activities.
  • Take responsibility for Sustainability Group adherence to budget and schedule and develop commercial awareness in the group.

Qualifications

  • Third level qualification in Engineering or similar; (Mechanical or Chemical/Environmental Engineering are preferred options)
  • Demonstrable understanding of the role of Sustainability in the overall delivery of projects.
  • Demonstrable understanding of Life Sciences process and mechanical aspects.
  • Demonstrable understanding of sustainability aspects and challenges related to decarbonization, energy and water savings, sustainable materials etc.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to ensure effective communication to all levels to both internal and external personnel.
  • Demonstrable experience as a discipline project leader in sustainability or other engineering disciplines (e.g. process, mechanical)
  • Travel will be required to fulfil this role, primarily within Ireland, but occasionally to European locations.
  • Strong ability to identify efficiencies within work processes, and to initiate and manage strategies including learning, mentoring/coaching, and attitudes and behaviours as required to achieve a performance excellence culture.

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Understanding of green building certifications (e.g. LEED)
  • LEED Accredited Professional qualification.
  • Good understanding of software and tools with reference to energy modelling and carbon calculations
